Having shiny, bright, white teeth has become a norm for our society and is associated with confidence and good hygiene. This was not always the case, as by nature our teeth are not pure white. In the past, only children and few young adults had white teeth. Just like developing gray hair, yellowing teeth were accepted as a part of the aging process. However, media, current pop-culture, and visually-perfect celebrities have changed our standards for our smiles. Just as you never see wrinkles or dyed-hair roots on a polished celebrity, you do not expect to see a healthy man or woman of any age to have yellow, discolored teeth.

Why You Might Need Porcelain Veneers

For teeth that have been stained due to internal causes, bleaching (at home or in the Beverly Hills office) will often not be enough to whiten the teeth. In the case of extremely stained teeth that cannot be bleached, Dr. Zadeh may recommend porcelain veneers. Veneers are a great way to correct not only stained teeth, but also chipped or crooked teeth. Veneers are a way of completely re-doing your teeth; ceramic porcelain is placed on the front of your teeth, providing you with a brand new, bright, straight smile. Veneers also offer a great alternative to more extensive (and time consuming!) orthodontic work, especially when only a few teeth are affected. The process of using these appliances to correct minor flaws from crowding, crookedness, or other aesthetic shortcomings is called instant orthodontics. There are always considerations when getting dental veneers, and Dr. Zadeh will happily walk you through the whole process. Porcelain veneers are often one of the easiest and most convenient ways to get that Hollywood quality smile you have always wanted.

On your first visit with Dr. Zadeh, you will discuss your current dental health, and the results you are hoping to achieve. Then, you will determine what size, shape, and type of veneers are best for you, in order to best complement your smile, face shape, and desired aesthetic outcome. In some cases, with a minorly cracked or damaged tooth, dental bonding may be all that is required, but in more severe cases, dental veneers can not only improve the appearance of your teeth, they can also protect them and even out the rest of your smile.

How Porcelain Veneers Work

If you choose to proceed with the porcelain veneers, Dr. Zadeh will then prepare your teeth for the veneers. To do this, Dr. Zadeh must remove some of the enamel on your teeth, giving the veneers a place to fit into. You will be given local anesthetic as well to make sure you are comfortable through the procedure. However, with all dentistry, especially reconstructive and cosmetic dentistry, you do have the option for sedation as well. Then, you will receive temporary veneers to protect your smile while your permanent veneers are constructed. There may be some additional sensitivity following the prep-work is done, so if you have any concerns, please feel free to speak with Dr. Zadeh and he will help find an option that is viable for you.

On your third and final visit, the permanent veneers will be put in place, giving you the perfect smile you desired. After the procedure, your crooked, chipped, and stained teeth will be ‘replaced’ with a beautiful new smile. As always, Dr. Zadeh will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your new smile, both before and after the procedure, and will be happy to see you for a follow-up appointment if you have any remaining concerns.
