HOW TO BRING A SMILE BACK TO LIFE WITH A BRIDGE

Posted .

If you’re missing a tooth or even more than one, you may have noticed changes other than how your smile looks. Missing teeth may result in a change in your speech as well as your ability to chew food properly.

If you find yourself hoping to get your old smile back, there are options available to help you restore your smile.

A dental bridge covers the gap where one or more teeth were lost. A fixed partial denture, or a bridge, uses artificial teeth to fill the area left empty by missing teeth.

Restorative teeth in a bridge are created out of gold, alloys, porcelain, or a varying mixture of these materials.

The teeth are then bonded and supported by surrounding teeth. An implant bridge then attaches the artificial teeth directly to the jaw or under the gum tissue.

The two types of bridges available on today’s market are removable and fixed. Removable bridges can easily be removed and cleaned by the patient. However, fixed bridges can only be removed to be cleaned by a dentist.

With many factors such as material and type, it is important to consider and discuss your options with your dentist. Based on price and preference, a dentist will recommend the approach that can work best for your needs.

No matter the decision, a good bridge has to be supported by the remaining strong, healthy teeth. It’s very important to take good care of the remaining teeth to keep the integrity of the bridge and for overall great oral health.
